I’ve always struggled with my weight. In April 2007, I tipped the scales at 277 pounds. I had recently moved to Atlanta and was having a rough time adjusting. My friend/coworker Joe, who was also under a lot of stress suggested we hit the gym together. He was quick to point out we were doing it to relieve stress, he never once mentioned losing weight. Smart guy!
On April 23, 2007, we made our first of many trips to the gym together. I was so scared and embarrassed. I looked around and realized I was the chunkiest girl there.
After 25 minutes on the elliptical, I was drenched in sweat and thought I was going to die. It wasn’t easy, but I went back the next day and by the end of the week, I purchased a gym membership. That was the beginning of my weight loss journey. Now you can find me at
When I first started working out, Joe convinced me to put on a swimsuit and pose for a couple of snapshots.
I was absolutely horrified at what I saw, yes there were even tears! Several months later, I posed again. It was shocking! For the first time I saw the results of all my hard work. Whenever I’m feeling frustrated, I look at those pictures and realize how far I’ve come! I also keep a daily workout journal to help me track my progress.
I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today, without a lot of support from friends and family. Losing weight can be frustrating, but I’ve been blessed to have my own cheerleading squad. Joe is my biggest supporter, he’s constantly cheering me on, listening to me cry when I hit plateaus and reminding me that what I’ve done is pretty amazing! He’s a former professional baseball player who spent years in the gym with personal trainers. From the very beginning he said “just trust me.” I did and its really paid off!
