I Lost 32 Pounds: Meichelle’s Amazing Weight Loss Transformation

I was in the 2nd or 3rd grade when kids began to refer to me as “Fat Self”. I wore plus size clothing from the kids section. My mom had to order a lot of my clothing due to the fact I wore larger sizes.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?  As a teenage girl I noticed that boys were not attracted to me. I can recall wanting to wear more appealing clothes to high school dances and proms, but of course I had to ware outfits that were available to people my size. My weight convinced me to believe that I was less than desirable.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?  I was tired of being referred to names like Snakes, Fat Self, Amazon ( not the online store). I wanted to be respected and regarded as a unique individual and not the kid no one wanted to be around. Did I do it for health reasons… Of course, but truthfully I did it because I wanted to be attractive and cute!

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?  I started off by reducing my calorie intake by 500. So if you typically consume 2000 calories a day, simply reduce this so your total is 1500. In addition to this I exercise 4 times a week. My work out include but is not limited to brisk walking, light jogging, and jump rope. This takes me about 45 min a day. I burn approx 700 calories a day with this process. So… Calorie reduction: 500/ Calorie burn 700. This equates to about 1300 calories a day that’s gone.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?  For me I began to FEEL like I was loosing weight within the first 2-3 weeks. I started to SEE dramatic results within 41 days of doing my daily routine.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?  I hated the word exercise/ diet. I love to eat and live a sociable life. For me I had to understand that If I ever wanted to get out of this skin, I needed to have a “WHY” and “Take Action”

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?  Of course I’ve wanted to give up. Sometimes the weight don’t come off like you expected to. I had to understand that “Time heals Everything” you have to respect the journey!

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?  I have plateaued since starting my journey. What you have to do is change your workout plan a bit, this is normal. For example, instead of traditional sit-ups I now use a medicine ball to add resistance to my workouts, its a very small 5lb ball…no pressure!

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?  It took me approx 13 weeks using my routine to lose most of my weight.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?  Non- scale victories… I’ve had some but what I’ve learned is that losing weight is a process. You may say that your target weight is 150lbs but you end up falling in love with 170lb. Only use the scale as a tool sort of like a Gps it isn’t always accurate but it helps to know where you are.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  I still eat the same foods.. yes bread, chocolate, wine etc. but all in moderation. I do not meal prep at the moment but I am conscious about how much I’m consuming.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  I can’t compare my physical activity to when I was heavier because I didn’t do much…lol. However, at this time I am able to run 4-5 miles in less than 1hr and still pick up the kids from school!

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Accountability: Have someone or something to hold you accountable for getting healthier. ( Friend, spouse, church member, anyone)
  2. Take Action: I understand that you have to work and pick up the kids, so do I. You have to do something now this is how you become GREAT over time, by acting now.
  3. Create A vision board: This is something that I use to remind myself of my “WHY”
( out of town trips, financial freedom, cars, clothes etc)
  4. Get off your butt. The universe knows what you want… Its just waiting on you.
  5. Take time for yourself and live in the moment in your spare time.
