Emma Cary Withdraws From The 2022 CrossFit Season Due To Back Injury

Emma Cary Withdraws 2022 Season

The 17-year-old CrossFit prodigy, Emma Cary, announced on her Instagram that a back injury has forced her to withdraw from the 2022 CrossFit Season. She has been carrying this injury since last year. Emma thought that she would recover by now, but that was not the case. However, she feels like she could not perform at her highest level this season, so it is better to just rest.

“I absolutely love to compete, and I’m so, so sad that my back just isn’t ready for the HUGE 2022 comeback season I had planned.”

This injury does not put down Emma Cary’s morale, as her statement suggests that she has some big plans for her comeback.

“Now I have 500 days to pour my everything into training for the 2023 CrossFit Games and a lot of opportunities to get even more resilient, tough, and smart. These past three months have been the hardest time of my life, but with trials come the exact lessons I need to reach my full potential in this sport.”

Emma Cary withdrew right after the 2022 CrossFit Open, where she placed 2,475th overall. She displayed excellent performances in the 22.1 and 22.3 workouts, having placed 3rd and 216th, respectively. However, in the 22.2 workout, Emma underperformed severely and finished in 9,676th place.

Emma Cary’s Career

Emma Cary started doing CrossFit back in 2014 with the aim of following in her father’s footsteps. However, she is already one of the greatest athletes in the world, and is considered as a potential Fittest Woman on Earth®. The greatest CrossFit commentator who has seen multiple elite athletes throughout his career, Sean Woodland, described Emma as a “rare combination of god-given talent, a maniacal drive to win, and maturity beyond her young age.”

Emma has dominated the younger CrossFit divisions for multiple years. She also competed in the open division of the 2021 CrossFit Games. She was only 16-years-old at that competition, but still managed to secure a 16th place finish.

Emma Cary’s greatest placements:

  • 2019 CrossFit Open (Girls 14-15) – 1st place
  • 2020 CrossFit Open (Girls 16-17) – 2nd place
  • 2021 CrossFit Open (Girls 16-17) – 1st place
  • 2019 CrossFit Games (Girls 14-15) – 1st place
  • 2021 CrossFit Games – 16th place

Hopefully, Emma Cary will be able to recover properly until next season. Her peak years are still yet to come, and taking a rest seems like a smart decision for her. If she recovers properly, Emma could be one of the greatest athletes in the 2023 CrossFit Season.
