I’ve had a weight problem my whole life, starting from childhood when I was taught bad eating habits and developed a food addiction after years of mental abuse.
NAME : Amanda
BEFORE WEIGHT : 330
AFTER WEIGHT : 180
POUNDS LOST : 150
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE? It affected almost every aspect of my life. Growing up I was always the heaviest kid in my class, and after school age it lead to health problems, depression, etc.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY? After having my daughter, I found that I was unable to be the mother I knew I could and wanted to be. I could barley play on the floor with her without being exhausted. When my doctor told me I might not live for much longer with how rapidly I was gaining weight, we both decided it was finally time to get a handle on my weight
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED? My doctor and I both agreed that to help get a handle on my food addiction and overeating habit, RNY Gastric Bypass weight loss surgery was the best route.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS? Almost immediately. With my weight loss surgery as a tool to help, I was able to learn to eat proper portions and make healthy choices. And once approved, I started working out 4 times a week and walking a lot.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART? My biggest challenge was my food addiction and learning how to have a proper, healthy relationship with food.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING? There were a LOT of times i wanted to give up, but waking up to my daughter’s smiling face every morning gives me the reminder of why I started and why it’s all worth it.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT? About a year and a half.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES? My biggest non-scale victory was being able to complete two 5K races, and just being able to keep up with my action-packed 3 year old toddler.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? When I was heavier, I was pretty much eating all day and had no regards to what I was putting into my body. I ate super unhealthy and my fiancé and I had a bad habit of buying and eating a whole cake together in one night. Now though, I eat mindfully, rarely consuming sweets (except on special occasions) and try to have a healthy balance of proteins, fats, and good carbs.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? Before I started my healthy lifestyle I lived a completely sedentary life, except for cleaning up around the house. Now I workout 4 or more times a week, walk my dog multiple times a day, and am constantly playing with my daughter. –
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Drink LOTS of water! Dehydration is no joke and neither is water weight.
- Portion control is super important! Being mindful of how much and how fast your eating is just as important as WHAT you’re eating.
- Find an exercise you love and move your body!
- It is okay for you to love yourself as you are, but want to improve and be healthier. Appreciate who you are, were, and will be.
