I honestly wave always been on the thicker side but I don’t think that I ever had a weight problem growing up. After my first daughter I was able to “snap back” quickly. I hit a rough spot emotionally once I became a single mother which lead to a slight weight gain. I then met an AMAZING man and gave birth to another daughter. In the midst of being a mom and fiancé, I lost myself and that’s when the weight crept up on me.
NAME : Danika
BEFORE WEIGHT : 247
AFTER WEIGHT : 207
POUNDS LOST : 40
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE? I was just unhappy. I didn’t feel that I looked good. I didn’t like myself and I was very self-conscious.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY? When I began to plan my wedding I wanted to get into shape for my big day but between work, life and wedding planning I was not consistent. It wasn’t until after my honeymoon that I finally had enough and said that I was going to give this a real shot especially since my husband told me no to liposuction…lol.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
Luckily (and also sad to say, especially since I let myself gain so much weight) my husband is a personal trainer so I just started going with him and having him show me exercises to.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS? I think it took a good 3-4 months before I put a side by side picture on my phone and I could see change…and then I was HOOKED!
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART? My work schedule is very stressful (12 hour shifts) and so is my job so I had to figure out a routine between my rotating shifts. And temptation to snacks/candy. My husband is a “snacker” with the metabolism the speed of a lion so having to look the other way while he indulged on gummy bears was and still is hard.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING? Many times unfortunately. I shed so many tears and threw in the towel a few times. But I would pick the towel back up because I knew that I was doing this for not only my family because they deserved a happier Danika but also for myself.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM? I’m actually breaking through one now. My biggest goal is to get out of the 200’s. Recently I’ve cut back on my carbs and increasing my cardio.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT? A year in total
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES? A good portion of my clothing no longer fits. But I wont go shopping yet for a whole new wardrobe just yet, because I still have another 10 pounds that I want to lose
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? I now incorporate a lot of veggies and lean meats. I don’t give in to “junk food” as much (I still eat it though because sometimes you just need a donut) and also healthier options (whole wheat, etc)
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? I grew up dancing so I used to be very active. Once I gained all the weight my only activity was when I was working because at the time I was a pharmacy tech and was on my feet the entire day. Now I have a sedentary job but I hit the gym 4-5 times a week.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- DON’T GIVE UP!! Sounds so cliché but it truly is a mantra I’ve had to chant to myself.
- Find your reason why. Make a list, post it somewhere that you will have to see it every day and use it to hold yourself accountable.
- It may take you longer than everyone else, but you will get there. Social media is a gift and a curse. It gives false hope at times and not everyone tells you the full truth on how they achieved their success. You will reach your goal…just stay on the path.
- Stop comparing yourself!!
Your whatever pounds you weigh may look different on the next person, blame science, it’s not your fault. - YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!
Whether you are trying to gain weight, lose weight, lean out, bulk up, and a plethora of other situations; please know and remember that the body you have at this moment is beautiful and absolutely perfect. You are allowed to be a work of art and a work in progress at the same time!
